About us

The Exeter Homes Trust, which changed its name when it assimilated the Lord Mamhead Homes in February 2013, was founded some 900 years ago. Its original purpose, unchanged today, was to provide accommodation for people unable to remain in their own homes due to failing health or reduced circumstances.

The Charity manages 141 almshouses in 8 locations in Exeter. The stock of charitable homes range from Victorian, mid-war, post-war and contemporary. The almshouses are reserved for local people in housing need, aged over 55, capable of independent living.

Exeter Homes Trust has re-modelled or re-developed 61 Almshouses on 3 estates over the last 11 years. The first phase of re-modelling at Grendon Road completed in March 2024 and the second phase is underway. Once Grendon Road has been completed, 61% of Exeter Homes Trust’s stock will have been redeveloped. Consent has also been granted to demolish 12 Almshouses at Fairpark Road, so that the site can be redeveloped to provide 31 contemporary Almshouses on what is currently and under-utilised site.
